Week 9: Indeed Pulse Survey Reveals Concerns Among American Workers are up as Businesses Begin to Reopen in the US

AUSTIN, TX (May 20, 2020) —  Indeed, the world’s number one job site, released today its ninth wave of weekly pulse survey results to identify the biggest concerns related to COVID-19 among American workers. As businesses in the US begin to reopen this week, survey results show that workers’ concerns are heightened across the board.

Previous results showed that concerns with the economic impacts on American workers during COVID-19 had leveled out. This week, respondents indicated an increase in concern for taking a financial hit (50%, up from last week’s 48%) and losing their job (44%, up from last week’s 41%).

“This is the first week during our research that we are beginning to see businesses reopen in the US,” said Paul Wolfe, Indeed SVP of Human Resources. “The economic issues are certainly creating a divide among Americans on the reopen debate, and perhaps heightening any anxieties that were relaxed as a result of social distancing regulations. With so many unknowns ahead of us as the country begins to reopen businesses, we are seeing an increase in concerns among US workers in regards to health and financial stability. ”

Worries over contracting and spreading the virus have increased this week as well. This week, 48% of respondents report being concerned with contracting COVID-19 at work, and 47% are worried about spreading the virus while working. Furthermore, 45% of US workers report concerns about maintaining their mental health during these challenging times – which include work/life balance, stress, and social isolation.

Indeed recently announced several new product features to help job seekers, including Virtual Hiring Events, remote work tag on jobs, and the ability to add #readytowork to your Indeed resume, indicating to employers that the job seeker is available to work any job now. You can learn more about these features here

To understand the evolving needs and anxieties of employees and job seekers right now, Indeed will survey 1,000 American workers weekly to determine their most pressing concerns with their careers as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. New results will be released every Wednesday over the next several weeks.
