Week 7: Indeed Pulse Survey Reveals Health Concerns Remain Steady

Worries Over Financial Stability Continue to Decline Among US Workers

AUSTIN, TX (May 6, 2020) —  Indeed, the world’s number one job site, released today the results from its seventh weekly survey of US workers and their concerns with COVID-19. Over the course of the pulse survey, concerns with contracting and spreading the virus have remained relatively steady for the last seven weeks.

This week, 49% of respondents report being concerned with contracting COVID-19 at work, and 48% are worried about spreading the virus while working. These numbers have remained fairly consistent over the course of the pulse survey, with 50% of respondents worried about contracting and 49% concerned with spreading the virus in the first week of survey results.

Concerns with the economic impacts on American workers are continuing to decline each week. 48% of respondents report worrying about taking a financial hit this week, which is down 4 points from last week’s 52%, and down 14 points from its peak at 62% in week one.

“The spread of the virus is still unpredictable, and not all Americans are able to work from home,” said Paul Wolfe, Indeed SVP of Human Resources. “It’s a tough decision for many people – they have to earn a living, but the virus is still a threat, causing great concern for many workers.”

Survey results indicate that concerns at the “very concerned” level have dropped overall in the last month. Most notably, 24% of respondents report being “very concerned” with taking a financial hit, which is down 11 points since its peak at 35% in the first week’s survey.

Indeed recently announced several new product features to help job seekers, including Virtual Hiring Events, remote work tag on jobs, and the ability to add #readytowork to your Indeed resume, indicating to employers that the job seeker is available to work any job now. You can learn more about these features here

To understand the evolving needs and anxieties of employees and job seekers right now, Indeed will survey 1,000 American workers weekly to determine their most pressing concerns with their careers as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. New results will be released every Wednesday over the next several weeks.

Full survey results below, including the previous two weeks of data. For more information on this survey, please contact Kristen Gehring at kgehring@indeed.com. For tips and guides on handling work and job search during today’s pandemic, please see Indeed’s special COVID-19 Career Guide

Survey Methodology:
