AUSTIN, TX (April 15, 2020) — Indeed, the world’s number one job site, released its fourth pulse survey today of how Americans workers are coping with the COVID-19 crisis. As we are seeing the number of total US cases of the novel coronavirus edge slightly lower in recent reports, concerns among American workers are beginning to ease as well.
48% of respondents report concern with job security, down three percentage points from last week’s 51%. Workers also report less concern with maintaining their mental health (down five points from 53% to 48%), and caring for loved ones (down four points from 57% to 53%). Results also show slight decreases in concern among workers with contracting and/or spreading COVID-19 in the workplace, remote work challenges, and balancing childcare arrangements.
Though many concerns related to COVID-19 are beginning to lessen among American workers, unemployment numbers continue to climb each week with over 15 million lost jobs to-date in the U.S. Results from the pulse survey indicate that these concerns remain high among those employed in the U.S., with 60% of respondents reporting taking a financial hit as their top concern.
“While news of the spread of the virus has begun to slightly improve, we are seeing the long-term effects on our economy take the front seat with concerns among American workers,” said Paul Wolfe, SVP of Global Human Resources at Indeed. “We have worked to provide resources for job seekers who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 to help them land on their feet. In fact, we are seeing many employers that are still hiring throughout the pandemic with job postings on our site. Our mission is to connect those who are ready for work with companies that are hiring now.”
Indeed is highlighting companies each week with current job postings on the Indeed Career Guide’s COVID-19 Resource Page, at indeed.com/heretohelp. This week, jobs with healthcare, retail, and insurance companies like Genentech, AutoZone, Instacart, State Farm Insurance, CSL Plasma, and Ascension were featured here.
To understand the evolving needs and anxieties of employees and job seekers right now, Indeed will survey 1,000 American workers weekly to determine their most pressing concerns with their careers as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. New results will be released every Wednesday over the next several weeks.
Full survey results below, including the previous two weeks of data. For more information on this survey, please contact Kristen Gehring at email@example.com. For tips and guides on handling work and job search during today’s pandemic, please see Indeed’s special COVID-19 Career Guide.
To conduct this study, Indeed will survey 1,000 US respondents each week over a 24-hour period for ten consecutive weeks. The weekly survey results are from those respondents who report that they are currently employed.
