Week 10: American Workers’ Concern with Losing Their Job is at an All-Time Low According to Indeed’s 10-Week Pulse Survey Results

AUSTIN, TX (May 27, 2020) —  Indeed, the world’s number one job site, released today its tenth and final wave of weekly pulse survey results to identify the biggest concerns related to COVID-19 among American workers. This week, US workers report the lowest level of concern for losing their jobs in ten weeks. At its lowest point today, 39% of US workers are “concerned” or “very concerned” with losing their jobs (19% report being “very concerned”). This figure is down five points from last week’s 44% of very concerned/concerned respondents, and down twelve points from it’s peak at 51% in Week 3 results.

Another area of concern that is at an all-time low for American workers is with balancing childcare arrangements. This week, 24% of respondents report being “concerned” or “very concerned” about childcare (9% report “very concerned”). This response rate is down seven points from last week’s 31%, and down twelve points from its peak at 36% in Week 3.

Worries over contracting and spreading the virus are remaining steady. This week, 47% of respondents report being concerned with contracting COVID-19 at work (compared to last week’s 48%). Workers report that 45% are worried about spreading the virus while working (compared to last week’s 47%).

“This week, we are seeing some areas of concern for American workers at their lowest in ten weeks,” said Paul Wolfe, Indeed SVP of Human Resources. “Concerns were high when we began these surveys ten weeks ago, and reached a peak in the third round of results in the first week of April. Since then, we’ve seen a slight fluctuation with reported concerns each week as uncertainty continued to unfold as a result of COVID-19. We are encouraged to see that concerns among American workers this week are reaching some of the lowest levels yet. This may be due to a level of optimism and comfort brought about with the reopening of economies across the country.”

To understand the evolving needs and anxieties of employees and job seekers right now, Indeed surveyed 1,000 American workers weekly to determine their most pressing concerns with their careers as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

Survey Methodology:

To conduct this study, Indeed will survey 1,000 US respondents each week over a 24-hour period for ten consecutive weeks. The weekly survey results are from those respondents who report that they are currently employed.
